I’m really glad that I’m in a relationship that has a lot of light and humor to it.
Life is really difficult and serious as an adult, so it helps to have adult relationships that are more lighthearted.
If my husband and I couldn’t joke around with each other, there’s no way we would have survived these past twenty years together. Lord knows, we’ve been through a lot in that time and the serious nature of many of these events definitely could have dragged us through the mud if we weren’t able to crack some jokes. That being said, I don’t always love all of his practical jokes. There are times when I’m being dead serious, and I wish that he would give me his full and somber attention. For instance, for the past several years I’ve been complaining about how cold in this house is. It seems like no matter what we do and no matter how high the central heating system is turned up, there are patches of extremely cold air located throughout the house. There are many drafts and areas of uneven hot and cold temperatures that you accidentally wander through as you move through the residence. Because of this, I am always uncomfortable and regularly have to wear several layers indoors. I’ve been asking my husband to consider installing radiant heated floors throughout the house for many years now. I know that this alternative heating source is extremely energy efficient and clean. It delivers heat right where you need it, and has the added benefit of warming up here toes on the coldest winter mornings. I’ve been talking about radiant heated floors for so many years that I really thought my husband was going to give in and purchase them for me this past Christmas. Instead, I opened my gift and found a large furry rug. Ha. Ha.
