When I was growing up, my mom constantly told me interesting things about my grandma on my dad’s side of the family.
I was extremely impressed to learn things about her, because she grew up under difficult circumstances in a rough time period.
One of the things that my mom constantly told me was how hard my grandma always worked. She always had a job, even though that was not normal for the times. She earned her own paycheck and she was smart enough to keep herself financially independent from my grandpa by hiding some of her paycheck money every week. My mom always told me these stories, but we never truly knew where my grandma hid her stash. Sadly, last year the time came for my grandma to move into assisted living. When we were relocating her, I finally solved the mystery of her cash hoarding; it was in the vents. We were carefully moving all of her belongings out of the house when I realized that the indoor air temperature was quickly climbing and growing quite stagnant in quality. I could barely breathe in this hot and humid air, so I went over to the ancient thermostat to see if I could get the old school air conditioning system to kick into gear. I was playing with the thermostat dials but nothing was happening with the indoor air quality. I could hear the AC unit running, so I decided to investigate the air ducts. When I held my hand up to the air vent, I realized that barely any air was coming through. I opened the air vent to see what the obstruction was, and found a large envelope with money taped to the back of it. I found several more of these hidden throughout the air vents in the old house. We took all the cash and put it in an account for my grandma. Now she can finally use that hard earned money.
